파라과이의 도 넘은 추태에 정면 반박했다. 프랑스는 5일(이하 한국시각) 미국 펜실베이니아주 필라델피아 스타디움에서 열린 2026년 북중미월드컵 16강전에서 파라과이를 1대0으로 꺾고, 8강에 올랐다. 음바페는 후반 25분 데지레 두에가 얻은 페널티킥을 침착하게 성공시켰다.
파라과이의 '더티 축구'에 전 세계의 비판이 쏟아졌다. 파라과이 선수들은 주심의 눈을 피해 음바페를 잡고, 발길질을 하고, 가격해 빈축을 샀다. 더 큰 논란은 파라과이의 이같은 추태에도 단 한 장의 옐로카드도 받지 않았다.
두 나라의 '전쟁'은 끝나지 않았다. 그라운드 밖에선 인종 차별로 몸살을 앓고 있다. 영국의 'BBC'는 7일 '음바페가 파라과이 상원의원이 자신의 출신과 학력을 조롱하는 인종차별적 발언을 여러 차례 한 데 대해 비열하고, 상원의원 자리에 어울리지 않는다고 비난했다'고 보도했다.
